In this tutorial I'll show you the technique I used to create this sword.

1 Paint the general shape in 50 % gray

2 At this step I use only black and white. I create a smooth and uniform shading with a medium airbrush with low opacity.

For highlights and shadows I use a small airbrush with 10% opacity .

3 Because the surface isn't perfect add a little noise.

With the pen I create some scratches.

4 Now I play with the curves to create a shiny metal look

5 To color the sword I create a overlay layer then with a transparent brush I paint in different shades.

6 Flatten the image

and adjust the saturation.

7 Make a copy of the background layer then run a highpass filter.

Change the blending mode to soft light or overlay and modify the transparency.
